時間 in/on/at

表示時間的介系詞 in / on / at,是國中最常考、也最常錯的文法點。記住一個口訣:at 點、on 天、in 段。

at = 一個時間點(像針尖一樣小)

• 時刻:at 7 o'clock、at 8:30、at half past six
• 一天中的某個點:at noon(中午)、at midnight(午夜)、at night(晚上)、at sunset

on = 日曆上的一格(某一天)

• 星期:on Monday、on Friday night、on Sunday afternoon
• 日期:on May 5th、on July 4th
• 特定的日子:on my birthday、on Christmas Day、on New Year's Day
• 美式:on the weekend(英式說 at the weekend)

in = 一個大盒子(較長的一段時間)

• 月:in June;年:in 2020;季節:in summer、in the fall
• 年代/世紀:in the 1990s、in the 21st century
• 一天中的時段:in the morning、in the afternoon、in the evening

陷阱:

• in the morning,但 on Monday morning——指定是哪一天,就用 on。
• in the evening,但 at night。
• 前面有 this、next、last、every 就不加介系詞:next Monday、last year、every morning。

例:The class starts at 9:00 on Monday. My cousin was born in 2008.

怎麼想才不會亂猜? 把時間想成大小不同的容器:時刻最小,像一個點,所以用 at;一天剛好是日曆上的一格,用 on 放在格子上;月份、年、季節是很多天裝在一起的大盒子,所以用 in 放在裡面。遇到一句話有兩個時間,例如「星期一早上九點」,就分開判斷:at 9 a.m.(時刻)+ on Monday(某一天)。英文習慣把小的時間放前面:at 9:00 on Monday、on May 5th in 2020。
